Tata Power Invites Expression of Interest for Biomass Pellet Supply

Tata Power is taking a step toward cleaner energy by inviting companies to supply biomass pellets to its Jojobera Thermal Power Station in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. This move follows a 2021 policy from the Ministry of Power that encourages coal-based power plants to use “co-firing”—which means mixing biomass (like agricultural waste) with coal to generate electricity
Quantity:
They need a total of 1,000 metric tonnes (MT) of Biomass Pellets for this trial.
The Job:
The supplier is responsible for the entire process—including providing the pellets, arranging transportation via road, and unloading them at the power plant.
Who Can Apply? (Qualification Criteria)
- To ensure the supplier can handle the workload, Tata Power has set specific requirements:
- Production Capacity: The bidder must be able to produce or supply at least 100 tonnes per day (TPD).
- Financial Health: The company must have had an average annual turnover of at least ₹5 Crores over the last three financial years.
- Experience: They are looking for companies that have handled supply and logistics before. However, new suppliers can still apply if they partner with a logistics company.
The Cost to Enter
There are two main financial parts to the bidding process:
1. Tender Fee: A non-refundable fee of ₹2,000 must be paid via bank transfer when submitting the initial Expression of Interest (EOI).
2. Bid Security (EMD): Later in the process, bidders must provide a security deposit of ₹2,00,000. This is returned to unsuccessful bidders once the process is over.
How the Process Works
If a company wants to participate, they don’t just send a bid right away. They follow these steps:
• Submit an EOI: Send an email to the designated officers expressing interest.
• Digital Only: All communication is done via email and the Ariba e-tender portal; there is no need to send physical mail or couriers.
• Next Steps: Only those who submit a valid EOI and pay the tender fee will receive the detailed “Request for Quotation” (RFQ) and be allowed to participate in the actual bidding or e-auction.
